Assembling the Right Team for Your Web Project

If you want to build or rebuild your own website, you should have an understanding of what is involved. This will help you to select the best people work on the site. New England Webs is an industry leader in providing project management resources and the technology infrastructure to succeed in your web project, but we also understand that customers may want to use internal talent. As a matter of fact, several of our best clients are graphic designers. Of course we let them design the site!! The bottom line is, our customers should think about the best way to approach the work. We have the talent to handle any aspect of the job, so feel free to give us that work, but we feel it is important for our customers to understand what's involved in producing a quality website so that they can make the right decisions about who will do what.

Every project is different, but here's a short list of common deliverables in a typical website project:

  • A goal, the raison d'etre. Why does the website exist? What are you aiming to accomplish by having a website? This is fundamental and critical to ongoing evaluation.
  • A web host. Your web host is the computer that responds to page requests on a reliable and efficient basis. New England Webs uses a top-rate web host based in Ohio, USA.
  • A skin, or design. The skin includes things like the logo, font selection, color schemes, border designs, background colors, standard image sizes, etc.
  • A navigation. A website is a collection of webpages. What pages should your site have and how should they be organized?
  • Some content. A webpage is made up of text and images. Images need to be selected and text needs to be written, edited and published.
  • Some interactive elements. A lot of websites have forms that allow users to interact with the web owners and customer service reps. Sometimes there are calendars or polls or product listings. In some cases, these elements are the "deal closers" on the website, so they need to be carefully developed.
